Tara ist das beliebteste aller erleuchteten weiblichen Wesen im tibetisch-buddhistischen Pantheon. Als Inbegriff erwachter Liebe und Mitgefühls ist sie bekannt als „Mutter aller Buddhas“ und „diejenige, die die Wesen über den Ozean des Samsara führt“.

Als vollkommen erleuchteter weiblicher Buddha verkörpert Tara Mitgefühl und Weisheit. Wenn wir über sie meditieren, hilft uns das, unsere eigene Buddhanatur zu erwecken. Ihr rechter Fuß ist leicht ausgestreckt, denn sie ist bereit, Wesen zu Hilfe zu eilen. Ihre rechte Hand liegt in einer Geste der Großzügigkeit auf ihrem rechten Knie.
