Introduction to the Kadam Pagoda
The Kadam Pagoda is a traditional Buddhist stupa originating from the Kadam school of Tibetan Buddhism. It was introduced to Tibet by the great Indian master Atisha (982–1054 CE) in the 11th century.
The Kadam Pagoda is considered a sacred object representing the mind of the Buddha. It is used for offerings, meditation, and as a support for generating merit.

Key Features:
Bell-shaped body – unlike common stupas, the Kadam Pagoda has a unique bell-like dome.
Thirteen rings (wheel-like discs) on top – representing the thirteen stages of enlightenment.
Lotus base – symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening.
Sun and moon (sometimes a flaming jewel) at the very top – representing wisdom and compassion.

How to offering the Kadam Pagoda
1. Placement
Place it on a clean, high altar or shrine, higher than everyday objects.
Keep it in a respectful location – not on the floor or in bedrooms/bathrooms.

2. As an Object of Offering
You may offer fresh water, flowers, incense, or light (candles/butter lamps) in front of the pagoda.
Simply offering with a sincere heart brings positive spiritual merit.

3. As a Meditation Aid
Sit quietly in front of the pagoda.
Visualize the pagoda radiating light and blessings.
Contemplate the qualities of enlightenment that the pagoda represents.

Number of Kadam Pagodas to Place
Common Cases:
For a home shrine or temple hall: 1 pagoda
One pagoda represents the "mind of the Buddha." The focus is on symbolism, not quantity.

For specific practices: 8 pagodas
Some rituals (e.g., Medicine Buddha or Atisha’s lineage) use eight identical pagodas, corresponding to eight directions or eight deities in a mandala.

For large temple decoration: 108 pagodas
Major monasteries (like Ganden or Drepung in Lhasa) sometimes arrange 108 small pagodas in a row. The number 108 represents overcoming 108 worldly afflictions.

Placed inside a larger stupa: number varies
Small pagodas may be inserted into larger stupas (e.g., Enlightenment Stupa or Victory Stupa). Numbers can be 1, 3 (for the Three Jewels), 7 (for the Seven Past Buddhas), or even more — depending on the ritual instructions.

Conclusion:
For daily practice, one pagoda is enough. The key is the proper symbolic form and sincere intention.
For special rituals, follow your teacher or ritual text (e.g., eight pagodas).
Multiple pagodas are also common for decorative or ceremonial purposes.
