Alain Le Garsmeur is a documentary photographer. He was born in France in 1943. He studied at Ealing Art College in London. After graduation, he worked as an assistant to renowned photographers such as Helmut Newton, Donald Silverstein, and Guy Bourdin.

Since 1970, Alain has worked as a freelancer, traveling around the world and taking numerous photographs. His work has been published in The Observer, National Geographic, Newsweek, and other publications.

Alain's photography is primarily documentary, capturing the most ordinary daily life. His work is rich with the vibrant essence of human activity.

Traveling Across China

From the late 1970s to the 1980s, Alain first came to China, traveling through cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Harbin.

Through the lens, he captured the most authentic and ordinary portrayals of that generation, showcasing the vibrant lives of every individual living and working in peace.

In January 1985, Alain took a photograph in Fushun, Liaoning, China. The lens captured a long row of houses, with people curiously watching the photographer. In 1986, he won first prize in the "Daily Life" category of the World Press Photo Awards with this work.

While shooting in China, Alain entered Tibet for the first time. On the snow-covered plateau centered around Lhasa, he documented street scenes of Tibetan people.
