Through his involvement with the Women in Photography Initiative, he also championed educational and healthcare support for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and promoted the Young Women in Photography Initiative.

In a village near Labrang Monastery in Gannan, I once came across a photo studio and noticed its many portrait backdrops. I asked the owner whether I could spend a few hours photographing some of his clients. A young girl, wearing traditional Tibetan clothing, walked in with her family, and I took her portrait. On the grasslands, local Tibetans, dressed in customary garments, take part in competitions, play, and celebrate—an environment filled with humanistic character. A natural sense of style is widespread among Tibetans.
