Green Tara (Sanskrit: Shyama Tara; Tibetan: Drolma) is one of the most beloved deities in Tibetan Buddhism. Known as the "Mother of Liberation," she represents compassion in action—swift, fearless, and unwavering. Her green color symbolizes vitality, growth, and enlightened activity.

Unlike other serene Buddhist figures, Tara is dynamic—she is always ready to leap into action to help those in need. She is often depicted with one leg extended, symbolizing her readiness to rise and assist devotees immediately.

The legend of Tara originates in ancient India, where she was revered as a bodhisattva and later as a fully enlightened Buddha. According to Buddhist texts, Tara was born from the tears of Avalokiteshvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion). When Avalokiteshvara wept for the suffering of beings, his tears formed a lake from which a lotus emerged, giving birth to Tara.

There are 21 main forms of Tara, with Green Tara and White Tara being the most prominent. Green Tara is associated with protection, swift assistance, and overcoming fear, while White Tara represents longevity, healing, and wisdom.
