Tara es la más querida de todas las mujeres iluminadas del panteón budista tibetano. Es la esencia del amor y la compasión despiertos, y se la conoce como “la madre de todos los budas” y “la que transporta a los seres a través del océano del samsara”.

Tara, como buda femenina plenamente iluminada, es la realidad de la compasión y la sabiduría, y meditar en ella nos ayuda a despertar nuestra propia naturaleza búdica. Su pie derecho está ligeramente extendido porque está lista para saltar en ayuda de los seres. Su mano derecha está abierta sobre su rodilla derecha, en un gesto de generosidad. Su mano izquierda sostiene el tallo de una flor de loto, que florece junto a su oreja izquierda.
