Smiles From 1974: Remembered Landscapes of Tibet
A photo album titled *TIBET TODAY*, published in 1974 by Beijing Foreign Languages Press, came into our hands by chance. Looking back, we recognize that no systematic or complete visual documentation of the Tibetan regions in the 1970s exists. This album holds a rich array of natural and cultural images from Tibet in that period—from the Himalayan jungles to the northern grasslands, the Yarlung Tsangpo River moving slowly westward, and those faces of the past that are now fading.
Under the expansive skies of the plateau, while the customs of daily life have transformed dramatically, the landscape itself preserves an age-old character when set against the eastern territories of that era. Every photograph captures a moment fixed in time. The work here is a translation originating from Shongling Phun's blog.
